Hyderabad, India - May 25, 2008
Match No. 51st Result. Deccan Chargers v Bangalore Royal Challengers
Royal Challengers defeated Deccan Chargers again, they have moved up the point ladder. Mumbai Indians watch out for Challengers.
Both the teams Bangalore Royal Challengers as well as Deccan Chargers were as it is out of the race to get into the semi-finals. They were just playing their remaining matches in the tourney fro their pride. There was another reason to it. They both anted to succeed each other in the quest to make the other sit on the ‘team with the lowest points’ seat. But, even before this defeat, Chargers were already at the end of the tally of points, and with this crush, they have slipped in their position further. Gilly’s team has 4 points from 13 matches and even if they win against Chennai in their next match, they won’t be able to leave Rahul’s team behind as they now have 8 points from 13 matches.

After defeating Chennai Super Kings, Bangalore was full of confidence. And, that confide4nce showed in both their batting as well as bowling skills. First, with their bowling they restricted Gilly’s boys to 165 runs. In that also, Vinaykumar, who also remained the man-of the match, just gave 24 runs and took 3 wickets. The team proceeded with caution and determination in their batting as well. Jaques Kallis, Dravid and Misbah did add runs realizing their responsibility towards their team. Kallis made 31 runs off 25 balls and Misbah contributed 34 runs off 28 balls. This along with Dravid’s 31 runs off 21 balls laid the foundation for the team’s win. After Dravid’s exit, Chargers did try to pull back and create some resistance for the Challengers, but that was thrashed by Virat Kohli’s and B Akhil’s batting. In the penultimate over i.e. nineteenth one, B Akhil hit three sixes and registered victory to their name.
Deccan Chargers skipper Adam Gilchrist chose to bat after winning the toss against Dravid-led Bangalore Royal Challengers. The opening pair of Herschelle Gibbs and Adam Gilchrist played sensibly and completed 81 in 10 overs. Gilly hit Akhil for two sixes and two fours in the 11th over to complete 101-run partnership in 66 balls. However, Kumble came back to rescue Bangalore Royal Challengers in the 12th over and got rid of Gibbs (47), Goswami brilliantly stumped him. He hit 6 fours and 2 sixes in his 34-ball inning.
The momentum got a break after Gilchrist left in the very next over. Gilchrist, going for the lofted shot again, fell short and was caught by Akhil off Vinay Kumar’s ball on long off. He made a brilliant 46 in 37 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Silva who came after Gilly’s fall could not even open his account and was brilliantly taken by Goswami behind the wicket in the 14th over off Virat Kohli’s bowling. Three quick wickets for just 8 runs in a span of two overs broke Deccan’s back.
Rohit Sharma (17) in Venugopal Rao’s company tried to get a respectable total. But as luck would have it, he too lost the opportunity and succumbed to a shot meant for long off but which flied towards sweeper on the off side. Steyn took the catch comfortably off Vinay Kumar’s ball in the 15th over.
Venugopal Rao hit Kumble for two sixes and a four in the 17th over. But Kohli struck again for Bangalore and clean bowled Ravi Teja (7) breaking the 28-run partnership with Rao. The team could never recover from the shocks of falling wickets in every over. Rao was next to go. Trying to hit another boundary, he gave a catch to Jaffer off Vinay Kumar’s ball in the 19th over. He contributed with 26 in just 12 balls. Next ball of the over saw Bangar’s (0) run out on a direct hit by Vinay Kumar.
The wicket did not stop falling. The 20th over saw another run out. This time it was Vaas (0) on the second ball of the final over. The fourth ball removed A Yadav (8). Steyn’s last ball clean bowled RP Singh (1). From 101 not out in the beginning of the 12th over, the team lost 10 wickets for just 64 runs.
