Is IPL money affected Indian Test performance
By CW - Adithya Ramesh, Bangalore, India - April 07, 2008
Everybody heard about Indian test team's poor performence against South Africa at Ahmedabad in just 3 days of play. The performence of India at Australian turf was very good. But after IPL auctions what has happened to the players? Are they gone crazy about the money they are bought for in IPL auction.
See the South Africans, though they are in IPL they are performing their best in this tour. Everybody expected India to win the test but inspite of all their |

expections they were all out for 76 in the first innings in 20 overs.
India won the toss and choose to bat. The umpires were Billy Doctrove & AL Hill. There was a wicket for every 7 minutes in the Indian first innings. The highest scorer in that innings was Irfan Pathan with 21 runs. There were only 2 batsmen scoring in double figures that was Pathan and Dhoni. Virender Sehwag who scored tripple century in previous match only scored 6 runs and was out bowled by Dale Steyn in the fifth over.
South Africa only used 3 bowlers. Dale Steyn made the most damage by picking up 5 wickets in just 8 overs.Makaya Ntini also made a little damage by picking up 3 wickets in only 5 overs.
In reply South Africa scored 494 with De Villiars top scoring with 217 runs with support Jaques Kallis scoring 132 runs. Harbajan Singh was the top wicket taker with 4 wickets after bowling 41 overs and giving 135 runs.
In the second Indian innings, India adjust to bat 95 overs or 450 minutes. The highest scorer was Sorav Ganguly with 87 runs. Dhoni scored 52 and Pathan 43. There was a good partnership between Ganguly and Dhoni with about 100 runs when Steyn broke the partnership by taking Ganguly's wicket. The finally were allout for 328 runs. De Villiars was chosen man of the match.
India's lowest ever score in an inning in test cricket was 42 runs in 17 overs against England in the 2nd innings of 2nd test against England played at
layed at Lord's, London from 20th to 24th June 1974, which England won by an innings and 285 runs.
However, India's lowest score in an inning in India was 75 runs in 30.5 overs against West Indies at Delhi on 25th November,1987
The lowest score in an inning by any team is 26 by New Zealand vs England at Auckland in 1955.
But who knows what was in the players mind, was it on the craze of IPL money or the fitness of the players or unsuitablity of the pitch. Most of the players are still unfit for the next match. Who knows is it IPL money or something. The answer for this will be India's performence in the third test in Kanpur on 11th April.
